Gregg Cantrell earned his Ph.D. in History from Texas A&M University in 1988. He taught at Sam Houston State University, Hardin-Simmons University, and the University of North Texas before joining the History Department faculty at TCU in August 2003. He teaches the American History survey courses, plus upper-level and graduate courses in Texas History. He is the author or editor of several books, including:
The
History of Texas (4th ed.), co-authored with Robert A. Calvert
and Arnoldo De Leon (Harlan Davidson, 2007).
Lone Star Pasts: Memory and History in Texas, co-edited with Elizabeth Hayes Turner
(Texas A&M University Press, 2007). (Winner of the T. R. Fehrenbach
Award)

Professor Cantrell is active in university, community, and professional affairs, including the following:
■ Member of the Board of Directors of the Texas State Historical Association, where he serves as chair of the Finance Committee and member of the Executive Committee.
He was elected a Fellow of the TSHA in 2008.
■ Member of the TCU Press Editorial Advisory Board.
■ Series Editor of the Texas Biography Series, published by TCU Press and the Center for Texas Studies at TCU.
■ Freelance columnist for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and member of the Star-Telegram Community Columnist Panel in 2005 and 2008.
