I am in my office, 014 Moudy North, inside 018 Moudy North, The photo lab, Monday-Thursday except during class if you need additional help of just want to talk, please stop by or call for an appointment.

This course offers an introduction to color photography and digital imaging with an emphasis on producing photographs for prints and the world wide web. The course aims to familiarize you with the key elements of color photography and computer image production including the working techniques and vocabulary of imaging. By participating completely in the course you will have the opportunity to learn how to:

Explanation of Final grades:

A= exceptional work, perfect attendance and active class participation, an A or B on Exam
B= good work, near perfect attendance and active class participation, an A or B on Exam
C= satisfactory work, misses no more than two classes, active class participation, not lower than a C on Exam
D= unsatisfactory work
F= failure to complete all course work

Labs

The Digital Photo Lab 031N Moudy Bld. schedule is posted. It is reserved for you during your class time. Other times are available on a first come first serve basis. You may not use the lab during a scheduled class other than your own. You also may use the photography I digital lab if a class is not scheduled in it. You will need your ID to get into the lab.

You also have access to the DIAL lab inside 100 Moudy North.

The photography lab is a available only for students enrolled in photography classes and students with special permission. No visitors are allowed in the lab without the permission of Dick Lane or myself. Please bring visitors to the lab only if you have received advance permission and only for "a short tour."

Your ID card is your key to the lab. The university keeps a record of every time your card is swiped. Do not open the door for people who do not have their ID card. If someone needs in and does not have a card please see the person in charge.

You are expected to clean up after yourself. If you use something, please clean it and put it in its proper place.

Dick Lane is the Photography Lab Coordinator. He is responsible for student assistants. Student assistants normaly check-out equipment. If anything needs repairing please inform Dick Lane.

  Academic Misconduct (Sec. 3.4 from the Student Handbook) – Any act that violates the academic integrity of the institution is considered academic misconduct. The procedures used to resolve suspected acts of academic misconduct are available in the offices of Academic Deans and the Office of Campus Life.  Specific examples include, but are not limited to:

Cheating: Copying from another student’s test paper, laboratory report, other report, or computer files and listings; Using, during any academic exercise, material and/or devices not authorized by the person in charge of the test; Collaborating with or seeking aid from another student during a test or laboratory without permission; Knowingly using, buying, selling, stealing, transporting, or soliciting in its entirety or in part, the contents of a test or other assignment unauthorized for release; Substituting for another student or permitting another student to substitute for oneself;

Plagiarism: The appropriation, theft, purchase or obtaining by any means another’s work, and the unacknowledged submission or incorporation of that work as one’s own offered for credit. Appropriation includes the quoting or paraphrasing of another’s work without giving credit therefore.       

Collusion: The unauthorized collaboration with another in preparing work offered for credit.

  Netiquette: Communication Courtesy Code.  All members of the class are expected to follow rules of common courtesy in all email messages, threaded discussions and chats.  If I deem any of them to be inappropriate or offensive, I will forward the message to the Chair of the department and the online administrators and appropriate action will be taken, not excluding expulsion from the course.

Idea oriented photographs: Photography is taught at the university because it is concept oriented. It is important to learn the decorative and the intellectual elements of imaging.
