Herbert, Frank
- Series: The Dune Chronicles
- Dune (9 r)
- Dune Messiah (5 r)
- Children of Dune (6 r)
- God-Emperor of Dune (6 r)
- Heretics of Dune (7 r)
- Chapterhouse: Dune (7 r)
- Ok, the conventional wisdom says that the first book
is the best and that it goes downhill from there, but I
disagree. The first book is probably the best, yes, and
you should read it. Dune Messiah is arguably the worst,
and Children of Dune is no gem. The last three, though,
focus much more on philosophy, politics and the Bene
Gesserit (and Tleilax, a rival sisterhod). I thought all
of them were worthwhile. The last two are among the best
"secret agent" type stories I've read in this genre.
- The White Plague (7 r)
- This is about a crazy molecular biolgist who creates a virus
to kill the world's women and is the only one who really has the
expertise to find the cure. Not really SF genre...it would sell
well if marketed with Clancy/King and the like though the writing
style is much different. Anyway, it is a very good book, and I
can still remember it vividly...good last line, too: "You'll
always be my primary..."
