Carville, James
- We're Right, They're Wrong!
- Basically, this book is supposed to act as a pep-talk for
modern day progressives. Carville's style of writing is very
down-home (not sure if it is a caricature, but it doesn't ring
completely true to me) and fairly funny. Of course, he spends
most of the book talking about how most Republicans are idiots
(focussing, to be fair, on the leadership, while expressing
sympathy for and even agreement with many Republican ideas),
so most conservatives will hate it. I enjoyed this for about
the first 50 pages, but then it got a little tiresome. I
guess I'm just not into partisan pep-talks (like most liberals
I know, which is why talk radio is dominated by conservatives).
I know in my heart what I believe, and I don't need to see all
of the arguments repeated again and again to tell me who's
"right" and who's "wrong". I'd rather see a tough
examination of various ideas. For the political novice who
doesn't really keep up with events and politics like me, there's
some good background in here on a lot of stories from the Clinton
administration, particularly the health care debate. If you're
a political moderate who's read one of Rush's books, you should
give the other side equal time and read this one. It's that kind
of book. Also, some good recipes in here! Yum!
