Powers, Tim
- The Anubis Gates (5)
- This is a rather muddled time travel novel, mixing historical
fiction (real characters such as Samuel Taylor Coleridge ... why
does it seem every mischievous speculative fiction character who
was alive in the 19th century claims to have had a hand in the
famous interruption of "Kubla Khan" by the mysterious "person
on business from Porlock"?) with good and evil characters from
the distant past and present. In this case, the villain is an
ancient Egyptian sorceror up to no good, and the good guy is, well,
constantly changing thanks to a body-switching plot device that
is somewhat confusing if, like me, you don't read this book over
a very short span of time. I say no more other than that this sort
of action-adventure time travel business was done far more
effectively, in my opinion, my Simon Hawke is his lengthy
"Time Wars" series.
