Gene Allen Smith is a professor of history at
Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. The author of numerous books,
Smith has received research awards from TCU and Montana State
University-Billings, as well as fellowships from the Henry E. Huntington
Library, the Virginia Historical Society, the US Department of the Navy, the US
Military Academy at West Point, and the National Endowment for the
Humanities. Known as an outstanding speaker, he has received teaching
awards from TCU and Montana State University Billings, and has given talks at
the Smithsonian Institution; Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello; the United States
Naval Academy; the Historic New Orleans Collection; the Musée
de la Civilisation, Québec City, Canada; and at a
host of universities in the United States and abroad. He lives in Fort
Worth.
