Dr. Kiril Tochkov is Professor of Economics at Texas Christian University. A native of Bulgaria, he studied Chinese Studies (Sinology) and Economics at Ruprecht Karls University in Heidelberg, Germany, and at Beijing Foreign Studies University in China. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2005.
His research focuses on regional macroeconomics, growth and productivity, trade, and monetary policy, with particular emphasis on China and other emerging economies in Eastern Europe and Asia. His work has been published in leading academic journals across several fields, including macroeconomics (Macroeconomic Dynamics, Journal of Macroeconomics), international economics (Review of International Economics, The World Economy), comparative economics (Economic Systems, Economics of Transition and Institutional Change), and Chinese/Asian economics (China Economic Review, Journal of Asian Economics), among others. He currently serves as Associate Editor of Asia and the Global Economy (Elsevier) and SN Business & Economics (Springer Nature).
Dr. Tochkov has held visiting appointments at central banks (Bank of Finland, Bulgarian National Bank), universities (East China Normal University, University of Orléans), and research institutes (Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, Centre for Advanced Study).
At Texas Christian University, he regularly teaches Macroeconomics, Time Series Econometrics, and Asian Economics. He served as Chair of the Department of Economics from 2017 to 2020.
