Information about Domestic Violence

Domestic violence isn’t a new thing, it’s been an epidemic to the United States for a long time. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) “more than 10 million adults experience domestic violence annually.”

NCADV recognizes that domestic abuse is a pattern not usually just a single occurrence, unfortunately estimating for domestic abuse to happen about every three seconds in the United States.

STATISTICS:
Physical Abuse: An average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States — more than 12 million women and men over the course of a single year.

1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) aged 18 and older in the US have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

Some Warning Signs of Abuse: • Is your partner becoming very controlling and possessive of your time? • Do they get jealous of the time you spend with friends and family? • Do they control the household finances without bringing you into discussion and taking your money? • Do they say things that degrade, insult, shame and demean you, especially in front of others? • Do they not allow you to make your own decisions, controlling your actions? • Do they pressure you into sexual acts or pressure you into allowing them to do it to you? • Do they verbally threaten you or physically threaten you with weapons and other forms of force? • Do they destroy things you own or even your home?
