Introduction
There are countless wonderful Astronomical sites out there on the World
Wide Web. I've listed a few here to get you started.
- The
Nine Planets
- A multimedia tour of the solar system. This site contains up to date
information on all of the objects in the solar system, including links
to sites where solar system research is ongoing, like NASA and Space
Telescope Science Institute. By far, this is the best resource for
solar system astronomy on the Web.
- Views of the
Solar System
- Similar in spirit to "The Nine Planets", this site contains lots of
useful information and links. Probably the biggest difference is the
greater number of individual images available from this site. Definitely
worth exploring!
- The Galileo
Home Page
- The Galileo mission is an orbiter currently exploring the Jupiter
system, including its various satellites. Get the latest information
from this site.
- The Mars
Pathfinder Home Page
- This is a mirror site for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Mars
mission page. Check here for the current mission status, including
downloading pictures and scientific analysis of the data from Mars
Pathfinder and Sojourner.
- The Universe Today
- This site keeps track of space news around the internet on a daily basis. You can get status reports here on current NASA missions as well as links to a lot of cool places.
- The Hubble Space Telescope
- Check here for the latest incredible results from the most successful
Astronomical telescope in human history. Here you can find images of
the planets that are almost as sharp as those from the Voyager mission
as well as pictures of galaxies seen as they were over 10 billion
years ago.
- The
Sidewalk Astronomers Club
- This is a club for amateur astronomers that meets monthly outside
the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History for a star party. They
also take their telescopes well outside of town every couple of months
for a camping trip, and everyone is invited! Check here for information
about the club and the various events.
- The CERES
Project
- This is a collection of on-line astronomy education links
specifically geared for K-12 teachers.
