  • The story here is fairly similar to "Dune". A colonial government (in this case, Earth) attempts to exploit the natives of a backwater planet who have a monopoly on something in high demand (in this case, a longevity drug that can't be synthesized), but some rebels side with the natives and end up surprising the overwhelming invasion force (in this case, with a deus-ex-machina twist). There are some decent characters here, particularly the diplomat Fleur and Armada, who carries with her a stolen item worth the whole planet's wealth put together but doesn't know it. On the whole, though, this was more of a "pass the time" reading experience rather than a gripping page-turner, at least for me.
