Wolverton, Dave
- The Courtship of Princess Leia (8)
- This story takes place within a couple of years after the end
of "Return of the Jedi". As the story opens, we find that Han and
Leia have grown somewhat more distant as each has been off fighting
their own separate battles in the name of the Rebellion. Meanwhile,
Luke is still trying to find his destiny and hoping to find traces
of the history of the Jedi in the old Republic. A very powerful group
of worlds wants to ally with the New Republic, and to cement the
alliance, their handsome prince wants to marry Leia. Han kidnaps
her to try to win her love back, but everyone eventually ends up
crash-landed on a beseiged world populated with some very nasty
witches who are strong in the Force. All in all, this book is a
real treat for the Star Wars fanatic, in spite of the fact that the
love triangle subplot is resolved lamely. It continues on in the same
spirit as the movies and books such as Zahn's trilogy and Tyers'
"Truce at Bakura". The characters are very well (realistically, one
might say) fleshed out, especially Luke and Threepio, and the plot
is fast-paced and exciting. I hope Wolverton writes more in the
Star Wars series, because he has a great feel for the genre.
