Degeneres, Ellen
- My Point ... And I Do Have One
- Probably the most accurate parallel here to a book
I'm familiar with is SeinLanguage by
Jerry Seinfeld. This book
is a compilation of Degeneres' most common routines,
with some material borrowed from her show but most from
routines that are all too familiar to ardent viewers
of stand-up comedy on any incarnation of Comedy Central.
For some reason, it didn't translate too well to book
form. Where I found myself laughing out loud at Seinfeld's
book, I barely cracked a smile while reading through this
one. That's not to say there aren't some interesting
insights and personal history here (nothing is said,
however, about the question of the moment...whether she
intends to "come out" in her character on TV), but all
in all, I was very disappointed and I'm not sure I can
put my finger on exactly why that was so.
