    • This seven-book series follows a magician named Haplo through a universe consisting of four "elemental" worlds, a labyrinth world of punishment, and a city called the Nexus in the middle of it all. All in all, this is a good bit of world-building, and I enjoyed most of the major characters in the book, but many of the subplots felt very obviously like padding and a couple of the characters (Zifnab in particular) were, for lack of a better word, jarring. And I don't mean that in a good way. Still, this is readable and worth looking for at a used bookstore. I've written a full-length review of this series, if you're interested.
