  • I've read a few essays by Gould in passing over the years, and so when I saw this fifth collection of his essays in a used bookstore for next to nothing, I couldn't resist. It took me quite some time to plow through it all...as a whole, it was drier than I expected. I guess Gould is best in small doses, so this is a good book to read off and on while you read other things. The essays are all 10-20 minute reads and of highly consistent and educational quality. I'm sure I'll eventually amass the entire collection. Gould is a brilliant man and a good writer for a very intelligent audience.
