Turow, Scott
- One L
- Scott Turow's one-year autobiography of his first year
(1975) at Harvard Law School. Very similar in style to
Robert Reid's "Year One", reviewed elsewhere on this web
site (in which Reid discusses year one at Harvard Business
School in the 1980's). Though this is a little dated
(interesting note: Turow mentions that during his first
year, 1975, Susan Estrich was named as the first female
president of the Harvard Law Review), it offers some
interesting insights into student thinking. For me, being
a teacher of undergraduates here at TCU, I'm always
fascinated to read about how students perceive their
teachers, especially at the college level. Anyway, Turow
offers some personal insights, but his ability to tell
interesting stories is not quite as polished (at least,
it wasn't in 1975) as Reid's. This is a good book to
look for in a used bookstore.
